Description
A finely detailed mezzotint engraving by Richard Houston (1721-1775) depicting a man wearing a wide-brimmed hat and ruff, thought to be the prominent Portuguese-Jewish physician and writer Ephraim Bonus (1599-1665). The original painting is held in the collection of the National Trust at Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire. Although a signature added later attributes the work to Rembrandt (1606-1669), the portrait was in fact by his disciple Ferdinand Bol (1616-1680). Inscribed in graphite to the lower margin. Well presented in a black frame with gilt trim. On paper.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration to the paper. Scuffs and small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
