A finely detailed mezzotint by William Say (1768-1834) after Henry Thomson (1773-1843). A poem is inscribed beneath the image. The original painting was held in the collection of Sir John Leicester, 1st Baron de Tabley, who was a notable patron of the arts. Well presented in a vintage black frame with gilt beaded and lamb's tongue running patterns. On paper.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Discolouration, foxing, and water damage to the paper. There is a tear near the child's feet, which has been repaired. Marks and scuffs to the frame, as well as some losses to the running patterns.
