Very Fine Early 19th Century Oil - Mother & Children
Description
A very finely executed oil painting on bevelled panel, depicting a mother surrounded by her four children, within an interior setting. A male figure stands in the doorway, presumably the children's' father who has just returned home from work. The messy interior setting suggests that the mother has had a busy day looking after her children, but their jovial expressions suggest a positive mood. The painting is well presented in a deep-set ornate gilt frame with decorative moulding. Unsigned. On panel.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some overall craquelure. There is a very tiny area of surface paint loss to the spoon handle which is in the bowl on the table. Overall the paint layer is stable. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration to the painting. The frame has suffered losses the edges but these areas have been painted over in gold. There are some cracks to the moulding on the frame.
