A charming oil scene depicting a mother and her three children playing with toy boats on a beach. Signed to the lower right. Presented in a gilt frame with beaded ornamentation. On board.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some light discolouration to the varnish. There are some minor losses to the frame.

Artist Biography

James W. Gozzard was a painter born in Northchurch, Berkhamsted whose work can often be found as prints and postcards. He also painted under the name F. Arnold. As yet surprisingly little is known about this incredibly prolific artist. The 1901 UK census shows him living with his wife in Luton and his occupation is described as an Artist & Painter. His death was registered in 1926 in Berkhamsted where he was born.
