An unusual and detailed early 20th Century interior scene in oil by the artist 'G.B.', depicting a school teacher with his pupil. The setting is characteristic of a late 19th Century schoolroom, with strewn books and ephemera. The artist has depicted characterful figures, in the young boy and older teacher, threateningly carrying a whip. Well-presented in a Bird's Eye maple wood frame. Signed with monogram. On board.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and light scuffing. Inspection under UV light reveals some small areas of surface restoration to the lower left. The frame has some surface losses and scuffing, but is in good condition overall.
