Attributed to Charles De Groux - 19th Century Oil La Prière

Description

Two women converse beside a stone building in this fine nineteenth-century oil. A plaque affixed to the frame attributes the work to Charles De Groux (1825-1870), and the painting bears his signature to the lower left. The work is well presented in a gilt frame with beaded and foliate running patterns and a cream fabric slip. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration, yellowing to the varnish layer, and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent overpainting. Scuffs and wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
