Joseph Radetzky von Radetz (1766-1858) was an Austrian field marshal. He fought at the Battle of Leipzig against Napoleon, and embarked on reforms of the Austrian army. His victory at the Battle of Custoza is commemorated by Johann Strauss I's 'Radetzky March.' He is depicted here in miniature, dressed in splendid military uniform. Beautifully presented in an antique gilt frame. Inscribed verso. Unsigned. On card.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and craquelure. Areas of overpainting. Small scratch to the upper left. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
