A skilfully painted portrait of the Virgin Mary by Belgian artist Ernest Wante (1872–1960). Tears run down her cheek as she clasps her hands in prayer, her gaze downcast in deep sorrow. The work is signed and dated to the lower right, and is well presented in a gilt frame. On panel.
Condition
Some scuffs and wear around the margins. Scuffs and small losses to the frame. Parts of the frame mouldings have been restored. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
