V. Heemskerk - Large Impressive Original 19th Century Oil. An impressive 19th century continental oil painting on canvas in the 17th century manner of Egbert Van Heemskerk showing a party of merry makers feasting and listening to music, beautifully framed in an ornate gilt frame. Signed. On canvas on stretchers. Visible craquelure and some discolouration. There are areas particularly around the outer edges where the paint was previously flaking but this has been stabilised with varnish. Inspection under UV light shows some restoration, including two areas of repairs to canvas to lower middle section (visible on the reverse).
