A beautiful three-quarter length portrait of a young lady, painted in the Romantic style typical of the early Victorian period. The subject adopts a slightly averted gaze with an elegant over-the-shoulder pose. Notable features include brunette ringlet curls framing her face and an off-the-shoulder white chemisette with puffed sleeves, adorned with a pearl brooch. Presented in an ebonised and gilt frame. Condition
The overall condition of the portrait is very good. The paint surface exhibits slight bitumenous deterioration to the lower third of the composition. Examination under UV light reveals discrete areas of restoration and overpainting. The frame presents minor surface wear in the form of small chips and scuffs, consistent with age and handling.
