This accomplished late 19th-century portrait captures a weathered peasant, his face framed by a fur hat adorned with a green sprig typical of Bavaria. He is dressed in a teal double-breasted waistcoat with brass buttons over a white linen shirt, complemented by a dark neckerchief loosely tied at the throat. Unsigned. Inscribed verso. Well presented in a decorative gilt frame. On canvas laid to board.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Light discolouration to the surface. Craquelure throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration.
