Description

An interesting late 18th/ early 19th century tavern scene in the style of the Dutch Master David Teniers the Younger. The painting depicts a peasant from the 17th century period sat on a wood bench holding a tall glass of ale. A tobacco pipe lies broken on floor, and the man is pictured surrounded by several other peasants enjoying a pottage supper. Unsigned. The painting is well presented in a complimenting gilt frame with running pattern to the window. On panel.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration caused by a buildup of surface dirt and nicotine. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. There is some fine craquelure to the surface of the painting. Signs of wear and tear to the gilt frame include several light scratches and small corner losses.
