Gilt Framed English School 19th Century Oil - Figure on a Woodland Path

Description

A beautifully executed 19th century oil painting depicting a traveller on a woodland path. Clouds are approaching from the distant lake, and the artist has expertly captured the play of light and shadow in the densely populated woods. This painting is presented in a stunning pierced gilt composite frame, featuring scrolling leaf and rose details, with acanthus leaf decoration to the outer edge. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The painting was previously restored by F.J. Harris & Son, Bath in 1977 (ole label verso). Overall the appearance is very good. The frame has some minor losses to the corner moulding with some light restoration.
