Description

An impressively-sized work by Belgian artist Gaston Haustrate (1878-1949). The scene depicts a solitary figure in a village street, with humble cottages lining the road. Haustrate employs a muted palette to capture the brooding, dusky atmosphere. Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in an antique gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Some discolouration and craquelure to the paint; however, overall the condition is good. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Light wear to the frame.
