A country scene near Manchester. Presented in a gold card mount and an ornate gilt frame with floral and foliate moulding at the corners. Signed to the lower-left corner. The title and name of the artist are printed at the lower edge of the mount. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There is some minor discolouration. Overall well-presented and in good condition.

Artist Biography

Frederick Tavare (1810-1863) was an English landscape painter. He was a founding member of the United Society of Manchester Artists along with W. Brookes, R. Crozier, and T. Letherbrow, among others. He was the father of Frederick Lawrence Tavare (1846-1930), also an artist.
