Description
An atmospheric portrait ofBeatrice of Cusance, Duchess of Lorraine engraved by Frédéric-Auguste Laguillermie (1841-1934) after Anthony Van Dyke (1599-1641). The face and hands seem to be executed using the mezzotint technique while the rougher, looser detail of the background and clothing appears to have been etched. The artist has signed the outer plate lines in pencil and the plate itself has been signed and dated. The plate also has an inscription at the top stating the date and address of the publisher. The vellum has been laid on a wove backing. Signed. On Vellum.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Mount burn outside the plate lines and some foxing. There are several white marks on the dress at the bottom of the plate.
