This meticulously detailed heraldic study in pen and watercolour depicts the coat of arms of the Dudley family. The Dudleys were a powerful noble family who served in the courts of the Tudor monarchs. Lord Guildford Dudley married Lady Jane Grey and was executed after her nine-day reign. The arms comprise a gold shield with a green lion with two tails, known in heraldic language as a 'lion rampant double-queued vert.' The crest consists of a crowned lion passant, and additional drawings of a bear and ragged staff and blue beast have been drawn around the coat of arms. Unsigned. On paper.
Condition
Slight discolouration and light foxing to the paper. Small strips of tape in each corner. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
