This meticulously detailed heraldic study in pen and watercolour depicts the coat of arms of the Seymour family, headed by the Duke of Somerset. In the upper left and lower right quadrants, six blue fleur-de-lis flank three lions passant on a red and gold 'pile' shape, while gold angel wings occupy the upper right and lower left quadrants. A unicorn, chained with a crown around its neck, stands atop the shield. Additional ox and phoenix designs have also been added to the page. A motto associated with the Seymour family has been inscribed in graphite to the upper left: "A l'amy fidele pour jamais" (Faithful for ever to my friend). Unsigned. On paper.

Slight discolouration and light foxing to the paper. Small strips of tape in each corner. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
