DescriptionA bucolic scene depicting a man resting a pair of carthorses in a shallow stream while he sits and smokes a pipe, a scythe leaning over his shoulder. Presented in a distressed gilt-effect slip. Unsigned. The canvas stamp dates the painting to the 1900s or 1910s. On canvas on stretchers.
There is some craquelure and discolouration to the varnish. There are some small losses at the upper-left edge and some scuffs to the slip.
