Early 19th Century Oil - Portrait of Elizabeth Skilbeck

Description

An accomplished full-length portrait of Elizabeth Skilbeck at the age of 68, in 1818. She is pictured wearing a flowing silk robe, a patterned shawl draped across her shoulders, and a delicate lace bonnet framing her face. A book rests in her hand as she meets the viewer with a direct, authoritative gaze, conveying intellect, composure, and quiet command. Unsigned. Original label verso. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with ornate ornamentation. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Fine craquelure throughout. Some undulation to the canvas alongside a small indentation to the lower right. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of restoration. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the frame is in fine condition.
