A woman sits at a spinning wheel in a dimly lit cottage interior, illuminated on one side by the light from a window. Haerendel employs loose, textured brushwork, and captures the rapid spinning of the wheel in a blur of streaked brushstrokes. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in a gilt frame with a beaded running pattern. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Overall the condition is very good, with minimal discolouration. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Light wear to the frame.

Artist Biography
Heinrich (Harry) Haerendel (1896-1991) was a German painter born in Hamburg. He studied at the School of Applied Arts Hamburg, before training at the Reimannschule in Berlin. He painted genre scenes, portraits, and landscapes, specialising in coastal scenes and fishermen.
