Description

A characterful copy of Fred Barnard's illustration, Bill Sikes and Bullseye from the Charles Dickens novel 'The Adventures of Oliver Twist'. Much like Barnard's character study, this oil precisely captures the relationship between the vicious owner and his mistreated dog. The painting has been well-presented in a fine wooden frame. Illegibly signed and dated (1887) to the lower left. On board.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure to the surface. A fine layer of varnish has yellowed and deteriorated over the surface of the oil. The wooden frame is in good condition.

Size

28 x 20.5cm (11" x 8.1")
