A fine early nineteenth century example of a 'tronie' portrait, depicting a young boy wearing a large feathered hat. Tronies were a popular genre in Dutch Golden Age and Flemish Baroque painting that depicted figures with animated, exaggerated facial expressions. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. On panel.Condition
Overall the condition is very good for a picture of this age. Discolouration and fine craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Scuffs, dirtying, and cracking to the frame. Loss to the lower right corner ornamentation, which has been restored.
