A charming watercolour scene depicting a river flowing between banks with fallen trees. Perched on a rock in the center of the river a heron looks for fish in the stream. Signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a gilt frame and gold card mount. On paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some minor losses to the frame.

Artist Biography
Samuel Austin a painter born in Liverpool. He started his career as a banker’s clerk, but eventually decided to work as a full time artist. In 1827 he was elected an associate of the Society of Painters in Watercolours.
He specialised in landscape and coastal scenes working mainly in watercolour. From 1829 to 1831 Austin was one of several artists who contributed drawings to Lancashire Illustrated.
