This devotional tondo depicts Christ bathed in golden light, blessing a man in the darkness on the righthand side. An inscription on the reverse attributes the work to Benjamin West (1738-1820), as part of the series of paintings he was commissioned to make by King George III for the Royal Chapel at Windsor Castle. Well presented in a gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas laid to board.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and craquelure. Evidence of restoration work, including canvas tear repairs and overpainting. The canvas has been laid to an auxiliary board. Light wear to the frame.
