An oval mezzotint with aquatint portrait of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806), after her portrait by Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788), painted 1785-87. The Duchess of Devonshire was an English socialite, political organiser, style icon, author, and activist with enduring fame. Presented in domed glass and a beautiful ornate frame with floral ornaments at the top and bottom extremes of the oval and acanthus leaf detail to the edges. Unsigned. On wove.
Condition
There is some minor foxing and discolouration. There has been some restoration to losses of the moulding on the frame to the left side. There is a historic hole drilled in the moulding on the frame on the right side. Overall in very good condition.
