A charming mezzontint after the portrait by Henry MacBeth Raeburn depicting General Hay MacDowall. Hay MacDowall was a Scottish officer in the British Army who was the sixth General Officer Commanding, Ceylon. Signed in graphite and marked with a blindstamp to the lower right. Presented in a gilt frame with acanthus details and a washline mount. On paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some light debris under the glass of the frame.

Artist Biography
Henry MacBeth Raeburn was a painter and printmaker, son of the artist Norman Macbeth (1821-1888). Born in Helensburgh, Scotland Henry studied at Edinburgh University and art at Royal Scottish Academy Schools and at Académie Julian in Paris. He was elected a member of RE in 1905 and of RA in 1933 and served on both their councils. He was a member and exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Club 1943-45 and also exhibited at ROI, RSA, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and at the RI and elsewhere. He was a member of the Chelsea Arts Club and his work is in the GAC. He was the husband of Marjorie May Bacon.
