A watercolour painting en grisaille depicting a brig and tugboat on choppy waters off the coastline. Presented in a grey mount and a wooden frame with a gilt-effect inner edge. Signed to the lower-right edge. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There is some mild discolouration and some small dents to the frame.

Artist Biography

Adolphus Knell (fl.1860-1890) was a British maritime painter. Part of a family of maritime artists, he was the son of William Adolphus Knell (1801-1875) and the brother of William Calcott Knell (1830-1880).
