Description

An exciting and evocative watercolour of a French sailing ship battling heavy seas, watched by a smaller fishing boat. The White Cliffs of Dover rise in the background, adding a charged historical context amid early 19th century Anglo-French tensions. Dramatic and atmospheric, the scene is rich in movement and narrative. Well presented in a dark wood frame with a marbled paper backing. Unsigned. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing. Some widening to the joints of the frame with minor marks to the vintage glazing. Some trapped debris behind the glazing. Overall a highly displayable artwork in very good condition.
