A fine original late 19th Century watercolour by the artist A. Neath, after a painting by Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899). Entitled 'The Yacht Race', the scene displays quintessential characteristics of the romanticised ideal of English country life from the period. Children play with paper boats, watching from the edge of a small pool. The thatched cottage in the distance, and the particularly delicate brushwork to the gnarled tree and surrounding foliage, seemingly renders the work as a bucolic window into a past moment in time.
Well-presented in a double card mount and lacquer effect frame, with grey lined details.
Signed. On wove.In very good condition for a picture of this age. Some light even surface discolouration, and several minor foxing spots. Very light scuffing to the frame.
