17th Century Oil - Madonna and Child

Description

A charming seventeenth century devotional work depicting the Madonna and Child, rendered in an appealing naïve style. The Virgin is shown seated with the Christ Child on her lap, each with a golden halo. The aged surface adds to the rustic charm and character of the piece. Well presented in a black and red frame that complements the colours in the piece. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Craquelure throughout, resulting in some losses to the paint. Discolouration. Faint impressions from the stretchers. Small hole to the left-hand side. Evidence of woodworm on the stretchers, which has been fully treated. Crack to the lower right corner of the frame, as well as general light marks and scuffs.
