A barber extracts a tooth whilst several onlookers watch in shock in this characterful genre scene, painted after a seventeenth-century work by the Dutch Golden Age artist Adriaen van Ostade (1610–1685). The original is held in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. Signed to the lower right. Well presented in an antique gilt frame with ornate foliate running patterns. On panel.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and some light abrasions around the margins. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Scuffs, stable cracking, and small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
