Description

This mid-19th-century portrait depicts an older woman wearing an elaborate ruffled white lace bonnet and matching wide lace collar over a dark dress. She is draped in a deep red cloak, an outfit typical of a well-to-do woman's daytime attire of the period. Unsigned. Well presented in a distressed gilt frame. On canvas laid to board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Discolouration to the surface. Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals previous restoration. Overall, the artwork remains in good condition for its age. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and indentations.
