Artist Biography
Wilm Wouters (1887-1957) began his artistic career later in life, initially working as a sailor and later as a diamond worker. It wasn’t until 1907 that he enrolled at the prestigious Rijksacademie in Amsterdam to formally pursue art. Though he is primarily known for his evocative portraits, Wouters also had a brief but notable period during which he painted realistic still lifes and floral compositions in Amsterdam. His still life works, while not as widely recognised as his portraits, showcase his exceptional attention to detail and his ability to capture the subtle beauty of everyday objects. Wouters' diverse artistic explorations reflect his broad skill set and his evolving understanding of form and expression.
