Artist Biography

Philippe-Marie Picard (1915-1997) was a French painter, born in Neuvy-le-Roi. After studying at the Lycée Descartes in Tours, he entered the workshop of the sculptor Françoise Sicard. He then studied at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Tours from 1932 to 1934, and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1935. After returning from military service in the Second World War, he exhibited regularly in Paris, and eventually abroad in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Venezuela, Lebanon, Spain, Mexico, and Montreal. In 1947 and 1948, he participated in a group exhibition at the Marquié Gallery in New York, alongside renowned artists such as Eugéne Boudin, Jean-Baptiste Corot, Georges Braque, and Camille Pissarro.
