William Lee Hankey (1869-1952) Drypoint etching on paper. Mother and Child. Monogrammed in plate. Pencil signed and blind stamped to the lower margin. Most likely a later restrike produced after the artist's initial run. Presented in a wash-line mount and slim black frame.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the paper and wash line mount. Light scratches to the black frame. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.

Artist Biography
William Lee-Hankey was a painter and printmaker born in Chester. He worked as a designer, studying art in the evenings at Chester School of Art and at the Royal College of Art, and later in Paris. He lived in France for a time and produced a body of work of French villages and Breton peasants. He taught etching at Goldsmiths' College and exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy. From the early 1890s, Lee-Hankey exhibited at numerous and notable art galleries, which included the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Lee-Hankey was drafted into the army during World War I, serving in the Artists' Rifles from 1914-16 before returning to painting at the close of the war in France. His work is in the collections of the V&A, and in art galleries in Vienna, Budapest, Dunedin and Wellington.
