A wonderful early 20th-century etching with hand-colouring, depicting a woman and child dressed in richly decorated traditional Hungarian costume. The intricate patterns, embroidery and distinctive accessories of their clothing are beautifully captured, giving the work both decorative appeal and ethnographic interest. The figures are presented with a charming simplicity against a sparse rural landscape, allowing the elaborate costumes to take centre stage. Intricately rendered by the Hungarian artist Ernő Barta, the work offers a fascinating glimpse into the regional dress and cultural traditions of Hungary during the early 20th century. Condition
Light foxing to the paper. Some marks and minor discolouration to the paper. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.

Collection Information
A fine collection of etchings by Hungarian painter and graphic designer Ernő Barta. Rich in colour and detail, the prints depict figures dressed in traditional Hungarian costume.
Ernő Barta (1878-1956) was a Hungarian painter, book illustrator, and graphic designer. He attended the School of Applied Arts in Budapest, before studying at the private schools of Anton Ažbe and Hugo Wolf in Munich until 1903.
He was also a member of the Munich Secession movement. Barta worked as a caricaturist for the magazine Borsszem Jankó in Budapest, before working in Berlin and Dresden from 1907 to 1912. He then opened a graphic studio in Budapest in 1916, and later worked in the Netherlands from 1938 to 1939.
