German artist Wilhelm Thelen (1917-1985) received his initial artistic training at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. The Second World War brought a temporary end to his studies, but he resumed his training at the Düsseldorf Academy after the war. He remained in Düsseldorf, and would later teach at the Düsseldorf Volkshochschule (VHS).
