This delightful study by William Bromley (1769-1842) depicts two children by a brook. The young boy holds a china teacup to the girls mouth as she takes a drink of water. The artist captures the idyllic countryside in fine detail adding to the charming nature of this pastoral scene. Signed faintly to the lower left. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame with laurel and berry outer running patterns and a cove decorated with acanthus ornament. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
In fine condition. The canvas has been relined.

Artist Biography
William Bromley was a painter and engraver born on the Isle of Wight. Although little biographical details are known about Bromley, he has created many notable engravings after famous artists such as Sir Thomas Lawrence.
In 1819, Bromley became an associate engraver of the Royal Academy and also conducted work for the British Museums. He was the grandfather of 19th-century British artist Valentine Walter Bromley.
