A beautiful watercolour painting by the British artist Walter Thomas Watling. The scene depicts a street view in Brunnen, Switzerland, with vibrant red and white cafe chairs bringing life to this picturesque view with mountains in the distance. Location and artist's signature to the lower left-hand corner. There is a label on the reverse inscribed with the title and the artist's name. Presented in an off-white card mount and in a limed wooden frame, as shown. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and light foxing. Minor scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography
Norwich School of Art painting tutor and the Norwich 20 Group founding father, whose efforts led to its first meeting in November 1944. Born in Norwich, the son of a carpenter, he is recorded on the 1901 census as a 15-year-old 'school teacher' although nothing is known of any training he might have received. During World War I Watling was a corporal in the Norfolk Regiment and later exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society. He died in Thorpe Next Norwich which is now part of Broadland district of that cathedral city.
