A charming Georgian portrait of an older woman in a lace bonnet and shawl, sitting in a Regency chair with a book in her lap. She has a kindly, soft face and expression. The painting is unsigned, however, Sulis has the pair to this painting, a portrait of the husband (Mr Learth) identically framed, by the same hand, that has been signed and dated by the artist to the reverse. Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including heavy discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration. There is a canvas repair to the reverse. The slip has some tarnishing and an area of restoration at the upper right.
