This fine early 20th century portrait by the Catalan artist Eduardo Flo Guitart is both exquisitely rendered and wonderfully charming. A pretty young girl sits centre stage, holding a delicate young chick in her hand. Guitart has captured this moment with an expert hand, the control of light and colour is beautifully done, giving the scene a serene feel. The painting is well presented in a substantial contemporary gilt frame. Signed and dated to the lower right corner. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Overall the condition is very good for a painting of this age. The colours have been well preserved and the surface of the canvas is very clean, with only a handful of faint marks. There are some very minor scuffs to the frame and a small loss to the lower-left corner. Slight widening to the lower-left joint. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Eduard Flo Guitart (1881-1958) was a Catalan painter, highlighted mainly as a portraitist. He trained at the Escola de la Llotja in Barcelona and founded his own academy in Badalona. Guitart was also a professor of drawing and painting at other well regarded Academies in Badalona and Barcelona.
