Description

A tempestuous sea crashes against the rocks, where a ship lies beached on the shore in this brooding late-nineteenth century seascape. Vast cliffs rise above while the sails of other vessels can be seen in the distance. Signed to the lower right. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure. The artwork has undergone restorative work, including two canvas tear repairs and areas of overpainting. Faint impressions from the stretchers.
