A finely painted miniature after Titian's 1516 'The Tribute Money,' or 'Christ of the Coin,' which is held in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, Germany. The scene depicts the moment in the Gospels when Christ is shown a coin and asked if it is right to pay taxes to the Romans. Christ, sensing the trap, asks whose likeness and name are on the coinage and says "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's." Well presented in a black frame with a gilt inner edge. Unsigned. On metal.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame. Slight gaps between the edges of the painting and the frame. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
