A remarkable 18th century devotional painting depicting the Holy Family, Mary on the left in flowing white and blue robes, Joseph on the right holding a staff, and the young Christ child between them holding Mary's hand. Above the earthly figures, God the Father emerges from luminous clouds in red robes, with a dove representing the Holy Spirit descending between heaven and earth. The composition is well presented in a black wooden frame. Unsigned. On canvas.
Condition
The condition is consistent with a work of this age. The painting presents with light surface soiling and fine craquelure throughout. Two canvas tears have been repaired with patches applied verso. There are light scuffs and abrasions to the painted surface. Historic woodworm to the frame has been treated as a precaution.
