Sir Anthony van Dyck - Framed 19th Century Oil Baroque Gentleman
Description
After Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599–1641), this striking 19th-century copy depicts a head-and-shoulders study of a bearded gentleman, his gaze turned to the right. The artist's soft, blended treatment of the flesh tones, with visible brushwork in the hair and collar, beautifully brings this academic copy to life. Well presented in a gilt-effect frame with a wave foliate running pattern. Unsigned. On panel.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Minor surface marks and abrasions to the edges of the panel from movement in the frame. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. There is a vertical split in the panel, running from the bottom edge through to the sitter's nose. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs on all sides. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
