A retrospective study of St. Ann's Square by British artist Sheila Christine Turner (b.1941). This dynamic scene depicts Greater Manchester with turn of the century figures walking amongst carriage transport. Signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a complimenting wood frame. Fixed to the reverse is a Manchester Art House gallery label, alongside a second artist signature and personal inscription. On canvas board.Condition
There is a light scratch above the artist's signature to the front of the oil. Light wear and scratch marks visible on the painted frame.

Artist Biography
Painter and teacher who lived in Merseyside for most of her life. Turner showed strong art talent at school. She took a job in window display and worked in several stores before becoming a full-time artist in 1974. Group shows included Northwest One and Weaver Galleries, 1976; RA Summer Exhibitions from 1979; Davey Gallery, Liverpool, 1985, where she worked part-time; and The Gallery, Manchester, 1994. Had a solo show at Neptune Theatre, Liverpool, 1975, later ones including BDP Gallery, Preston, 1994. In 1988 Turner taught part-time at Wirral Metropolitan College. Birkenhead and Wallasey Corporations bought work for there local history collections.
