Robert Houston was a Scottish landscape painter. His renderings of the idyllic coastal scenery of Scotland were painted delicately in oil and watercolor, reminiscent of the style of Rowland Wheelwright. A noted etcher, he also used his artistic skill to design travel posters for railway companies throughout the United Kingdom. Born in June of 1891 in Kilbirnie, Scotland, Houston studied at the Glasgow School of Art. In 1936, he was elected to membership of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, and showed widely throughout Scotland. Houston died in 1942.
