Artist Biography
Marion Rhodes was a painter, etcher and aquatint engraver of landscapes and architectural views. Born in Lockwood, Huddersfield, the daughter of a wealthy mill owner she studied at the art school there, at Leeds College of Art and at the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, RSA, Towner Art Gallery and at the Paris Salon, where she won gold, silver and bronze medals. Marion Rhodes was elected member of the Society of Graphic Art in 1936 and to the RE in 1953. Her work is represented in several public collections, including Huddersfield Art Gallery the British Museum. A retrospective exhibition of her work was held in Huddersfield Art Gallery in 2006.
