Artist Biography
Painter, designer and teacher, born in Brighton, Sussex the son of a bootmaker. He was brought up in Hull where he attended the School of Art, before furthering his studies at Manchester School of Art and studying in Milan, Italy. During World War II he was an Official War Artist attached to the Ford Motor Company in Trafford Park, Manchester. He earned his living thereafter as a commercial artist. He was a life member of the Manchester Athenaeum Graphic Club and helped to organise exhibitions in the city that included Manchester Art Clubs exhibition of 1929 and 1930, for which he designed the catalogues. Also showed at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Cambrian Academy and with the MAFA. His work is represented in the collection of Manchester City Art Gallery and his death was recorded in Devizes, Wiltshire.
